Our Events in 2016-2017 included... Portraits of Success: National Career Day Girls Empowerment Movement held our career day event for youth in Peel! There was multiple sessions led by female professionals from various industries and a keynote speaker to cap off the day. Our goal was and continues to be providing a platform for youth to learn about the multiple pathways into diverse career professions and to feel inspired by the day's presenters and each other. We believe that we can empower youth within our community through storytelling and sharing lived experiences. This event was made possible with the support of Girls Action Foundation (http://www.girlsactionfoundation.ca/en) and its National Career Day funders: Desjardins, and the Leacross Foundation.
The Proactivity Project Girls Empowerment Movement held the event, The Proactivity Project, for ALL youth ages 14 and up in the Peel Region! At this event, participants received the opportunity to enhance their financial literacy skills as well as engage in discussions surrounding gender and its construction. Our goal continues to be providing a platform for youth to enhance their skills and to feel better prepared to enter the real world. We hope you feel inspired by the day's presenters and each other. We believe that we can empower youth within our community through sharing lived experiences and having discussions surrounding important topics. This event was made possible with the support of United Way of Peel Region (http://www.unitedwaypeel.org/). SOAR Conference Peel Gems attended the Soar conference held at Turner Fenton Secondary School on May 27th, 2017. This was an amazing event that allowed us to showcased our events from this past season, as well as highlight other events we've held in previous years. It was also a first to promote our organization to all genders in the Peel region. We look forward to returning next year and further supporting our peers!
